Share Capital

Known once as the city of grey heads and green gardens Dehradoon is the provisional capital of Uttarakhand. The word `Dehra` appears to be a corruption of `Dera` or sojourning. During the reign of Aurangzeb, Ram Rai, Guru of the Udasi Sikhs on being ordered by the Mughal king to retire to the wilderness of the Doon i.e. the low lands at the foot of a mountain range, is believed to have pitched his tents in the region corresponding to the Khurbura locality of the town. He also built a temple near Dhalanwala. Around these two sites, grew up the town popularly known as Dehradoon. Some of the best public schools of the country are housed here along with institutes and organizations like The Indian Military Academy, The Forest Research Institute and ONGC.
